I want to see what my cherokee is worth to see if it would even be worth selling in order to get a newer one.
1989 Jeep Cherokee 2 door 4wd 4.0L, Manual Tranny 190k miles on body and drivetrain, NO RUST!!!!, NEW MOTOR, new paint a couple years ago, and a heck of a lot more stuff.
What it has
New interior (seats, carpet etc.), headlights, painted trim, bumper, and grill, new 235 tires (for now), new oil in tranny, diffs, and tcase. Everything in the engine compartment has been CLEANED, DEGREASED and PAINTED so it looks brand new
New clutch, new pressure plate, slave and master cylinders, machined flywheel, motor mounts, throttle cable, brakes, new adjustable track bar, new air filter, glass pack,
Rebuilt engine 1000 miles ago
-Cooling
-New rad, water hoses, heater control valve, tstat housing, tstat, water pump, belt, heater hoses, rad cap, A/C blows ice cold and has been converted to R134
-Fuel
-All new o-rings, cleaned injectors, new vac lines, and intake manifold cleaned completely free of any carbon (lots of work haha)
-Internal
-New matched pistons, fully machined block and head, performance valve job
new rings, bearings, oil pump, cam shaft, lifters, timing set, polished crank, etc.
-External engine
- New knock sensor, oxygen sensor, starter, spark plugs, wires, cap, rotor, 4 gauge starter
wires, new timing cover, harmonic balancer, and timing chain guide
- And there is much more...... but i think i got the more important stuff
The engine runs AMAZING! I took many many hours degreasing and painting everything so it really does look brand new, i took the whole wiring harness out and had cleaned everything, and made some high quality repairs, and sealed it up so water wouldn't get in. The engine gets around 60-65 psi of oil pressure under load at operating temp, never goes above 195 degrees even in this 110 degree weather, ice cold A/C, the engine starts under 2 seconds which is awesome because its a renix, it has tons of power, the tranny shifts awesome, it has a brand new stereo with alpine speakers, the interior is amazing, its brand new, the tranny shifts smooth, but it has a little play in it... Its soon going to have a 4 inch custom lift kit with longer upper and lower control arms, and new leaf packs. So ill throw on new 32x11.5 tires and rims.

Wouldn't be worth getting rid of.
It really depends on the region you're in though. Cherokees go for like 2-6k, depending on a multitude of factors of course, around here in central Illinois.
We all see it as a clean machine that will run indefinitely, however, whoever you sell it to is going to see it as an outdated 4x4 that's over 2 decades old.

Yeah, there is no getting around the fact that it is 21 years old, and i know i would be loosing a ton of money by selling it. I keep going back and forth, should i sell it or should i keep it. On one side it has a new engine and what not, but on the other hand it would be nice to get a newer style cherokee, or wrangler. I dunno, just asking for opinions and ideas... It has the potential to be a amazing DD and off road rig, but i'm tired of throwing money at it.... but hey, just empty every pocket..... its a jeep. haha. What do you guys thing, keep it, or sell it and build up a newer cherokee?

I would throw some collectors plates on it. And use it for a Daily Driver. Insurance has to be cheap. Stop putting money into it. (other than the usual maintenance) And save that money, for your next Jeep. It's nice not have car payments, And still have a nice looking dependable vehicle.

I sold one last year that was a clean 2dr. for $3500 here in Chicago. Your Cherokee is in way better shape, with no rust you could get close to 5k in Chicago. The funny thing is that people never understand that it will start rusting after 3-4 winters. I have noticed since winter car prices have came down some here, economy is sucking here right now.

Newer ones for for 6k here in illinois, even with 150k+ miles. It's dumb, but it happens.
I don't think he would have much of a problem getting that much for one that basically has 1k miles on it. I think someone here in illinois would jump on it.
But yeah, I mean I know what you mean that you're probably getting bored of it and one a newer style. I just think it would be the best to maybe do some easy/cheap interior mods if you wanted to jazz it up. I think the consensus in this thread is that you've put so much work into a vehicle that is now going to last a lifetime, why sell it?
