Default How many motor mounts do I need to buy

I have searched everywhere, I even called Advance auto and they didn't know.
I think the motor mounts in my '92 XJ need to be changed, I keep hearing 'thunking' when I go over bumps, potholes etc. Jeep has 140,000 miles on it, and previous owner did some light wheeling with it.

I'm pretty sure the exaust need to be re-done too, but for right now, new motor & tranny mounts are what's in my budget.

So how many motor mounts do I need to buy? I should also change the tranny mount at the same time correct??

And thanks to the great right ups, I now know I will also need to pick up some OFA rings too.

I'm new to Jeeps and I have learned alot from reading everyones posts, I especially love the DIY & budget Mods.

Check your ball joints too they also will "thunk" when hitting bumps if they are shot

Agreed, you have two motor mounts. Its advisable to change the trans mount when changing the motor mounts as wear on one will effect the others.
This is a great upgrade for the stock manifold when your ready to fix the exhaust. http://www.ineedparts.com/auto-parts...-manifold.html

you should be able to visually inspect your motor mounts for torn/cracked rubber.
the tranny mount, if you can get under the jeep and push up on the t-case to feel for any amount of lift, if you can lift it, you need a new tranny mount.

check the obvious, shocks and exhaust first. (usually hits the crossmember).
