How long for lifters to bleed down before preload check?

How long for lifters to bleed down before preload check?

Hello everyone,

been reading for quite some time but never posted something. Now i did not find what i was looking for using the search function.

I want to adjust the lifter preload on my '99 XJ 4.0.
How and why to check Preload on Push-Rods? - Jeep Cherokee Forum

How long do i have to wait with the engine off until the lifters will bleed down inside the engine so i can start the procedure? Do i have to wait at all?
I don't want to reset the preload with the lifters fully extended already when they are still pumped up with oil.

Any suggestions?

Turning the engine over twice "by hand" should do it

Thanks a lot.

That worked. All Preloads were off by 0.04 to 0.06"

Shims took care of that problem. Runs very well now. No ticking at all.
