how high before a sye?
ok i got a 97 cherokee. got 2 inch spacers up front and 2 inch lift blocks in the back. Im changing out the coils in about a month and hopefully eliminating the blocks in the back because my springs are bent over backwards. All i wanna know is how high i can go before i have to put in the slip yolk eliminator kit? or if its actually a necessity or a way around it? id like to go for about 3 or 4 inches of lift on some nice 32x 10.5 swampers. and whats this death wobble? a link to the description of that and how to fix it should i experience it would be much appreciated. And just so everyone knows, my fenders and back fender wells are trimmed out nicely, just enough for the 30s i have now. and i took off all the flares and the trim. i personally love the way it looks. but any answers to those questions would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advanced guys!
You might try to search the forum a bit, there is usually a lot for this.
I don't mind typing soooo..... It has been my experience with Cherokees, what works great for one, may not for another. It seems that drive shaft angles are exaggerated the newer the Cherokee is. I forget when the stock "slip yoke" stopped 96 or 97 but I think that has something to do with it?
On my 92 and 94 that I had 3" was just fine with no TC drop, slip yoke or anything. However, I was changing U-Joints about once a year, and I actually thing that if I had done a slip yoke or hack and tap I could have saved my self from the UJoints. Honestly, since that was the only problem that came from it, I didn't mind. I became a pro at changing the joints and didn't have to deal with the slip yoke.
On my 95 that I have now, it only has a 2" budget lift which is probably closer to 1" since the stock coils are more than sagging. I will be piecing together a 3-3.75" lift from Rusty's after Christmas. I do not plan on a slip yoke on this one unless I really have to.
My friend has a 98 and a 3" caused some vibes that were solved with a TC drop.
I would say you are safe at 3" but you should be prepared for at least a TC drop and or SYE. Most will suggest a SYE for anything over 3". I am goint to try to squeeze mine to at least 3.5 but we will see.
Good luck.
