That is true. But the shims came in the rebuild kit.

I know this has probably been asked a thousand times, but what modifications do you have to make?

I am especially curious about re-gearing. How tedious is this and how much will it set me?

Thanks for helping a Jeeper-noob.
I have a Rusty's 4.5 inch long arm kit on mine. (I have had no issues by the way). It came with new leafs for the rear, front springs, shocks, adjustable track bar, tranny crossmember, drop brackets for the sway bar.
I added stainless steel braded brake lines, and Rusty's greasable rear shackles.

I am running 31's with a 5 speed, and have no issues at all. It's a one smoking one wheel wonder.

If you drive real hard, that poor rear axle is gonna give up the ghost with tires bigger than 31's, but if you are easy on her, she will hold together.
