Default How does a 3" lift effect ride of daily driver?

My 18 year old son has a 2001 Jeep Cherokee he wants to lift about 3''. I wonder what effect that will have on the ride on the highway and street. Also , what brand lift would you recommend?

I have a 3 inch lift on mine and it rides fine. My sway bars are still intact but I do need longer shocks yet. I would also keep in mind whatever tire you put on it will affect the way it drives and handles too. I hear rough country makes a good 3 inch lift.

We had one but the major issue is some questions would get lost in the shuffle and very few actually used it. So I removed it from the sticky list. I tried to get folks to use it but there really is no way to ensure that and the logistics of it is a mess. Posts get lost and unanswered and no one quotes the ones they are answering to it get's messy. Basically it was opne big cluster and a pain in the rear to deal with. I'd rather have 100 lift threads then 1 that's a complete mess.

What we really need is a thread up top in every area teaching users how to use the search feature. I don't mean that to be rude because I have found many users just don't know how to efficiently use search engines so they don't use them not because they don't want to but because no one has ever taught them how to. The search engine on this site and a few others has helped me answer so many questions it's not even funny.

Bilsteins 5150, Nice Gas charged or some Mono Tubes. Your typical twin tube like what RC sells and many others with their kits are just standard shocks and won't ride very. Spend the money on some good mono tubes or some bilsteins.

I remember having one of my posts moved to the thread and it was lost, so I agree. I wonder if there is a way to have a "the lift fundamentals" post with the basics that get regurgitated weekly so that people can read it and then asked more informed questions. Of course that is an extra step and is probably what you intended to do with the first thread.

I also don't want to sound rude either because I think this forum is GREAT about being welcoming and I don't want newbies to get flamed for asking legitimate questions that we see repeatedly. Seems to be more of our problem than theirs. With that in mind...SORRY if I came across rude. That was not my intention.

i DD my XJ with a 3.5" lift and 31's with no problems. the bump up in tire size will decrease gas mileage a little and maybe decrease power a little, but these jeeps dont do great on gas to begin with. they also dont handle like sportscars stock, but with nice shocks you can at least have a fairly smooth ride goin down the road, my OME shocks are great. rusty's make a decent 3" kit

I have RC's 3" lift with full rear leafs and it rides better than my truck did stock, pretty darn smooth. The only issue I'd say is that it's a little bouncy over large bumps or dips in the road. I opted for their nitro shock upgrade and it was worth it IMO. Not to mention this kit is fairly inexpensive as well...

My 94 Lil Red has a 3" lift with 31" A/T's.
I am running stock-style shocks (stock but not for a 94 XJ..hahaha)
HSP Coil spring spacers in front w/stock coils and 4WDH 3" lift springs in rear.
Swaybars (both) still intact.

After the lift I did notice some steering issues, but it wasn't anything a good alignment could not cure. I dialed mine in myself, I believe I have it pretty darn close.

Tires play a vital part of "ride-quality".
My Firestone Destination A/T's are a relatively hard tire.

How has the lift/mods effected stock ride quality on my DD.
Actually improved it.
Not too bouncy, but don't have to worry about the fillings in my teeth either.

I lifted mine and it rides just as good as it did stock or better. I bought the 3inch Series II RC Full Leaf Kit. I installed it myself and it looks good as well, the shocks that come with the kit are pretty good as well.

I see an underlying theme to these replies in that all those who have lifted their Jeeps seem to have also gone to bigger tires..Maybe the original poster would be well informed to know how the Jeep would handle if it were lifted and the stock tires left on.
