Default how do you turn off engine management light

i have a 96 jeep cherokee 2.5td how do you turn the engine management light off ive just put a new alternator on and dont know how to turn the light off thanks john.

It should shut off after a couple times of running it with all conditions normal, if however you still have an active code it will not clear.

I just bought a cheap USB OBD2 and CAN reader that hooks up to a laptop, once I try it out I can let you know how it works, it is supposed to read codes, give other information and allow you to clear the codes.

It is an ELM327 USB and is available pretty much everywhere. I will download the software from the website instead of using what is on the disk.
