Sorry to say.. Had to drill mine out. once those torx are stripped, short of cutting a slot with dremel and trying with a big flat blade screw driver...
Once its drilled, its easy to replace all the parts and re install with anti seize...

it's not even like there's torx or anything, it's just flat "stud" kind if things. I don't know if there stock or not but I didn't put them there. Look closer at the picture, maybe it's different on the newer style xj's? I don't know bit I've definitely got an old style xj

Try going from underneath. Behind your bumper.

Must be different than my '99...I didnt have to remove the catch to remove the carpet. Just removed plastic trim, seat belt bolts and drilled rivets out on the 4 hold downs and lifted the filthy carpet out.

On my 88 its torx heads with a plate under that has holes with threads.

It looks like they may have drilled it, put bolts true with the correct size head and put couple nuts under the plate. (good idea).

Its hard to see under. Look for nuts. (that could sound bad in a different topic)

that's one of the many differences between the old style (84-96) and new style (97-01) xj's
