Evaporator Core Question
In the coming weeks I'm going to be replacing my evaporator core. Currently my XJ leaks water if it's on an incline and it rains. The floor pans just get damp, and it becomes more damp on the passenger side. I replaced all the door seals which has helped, but I still get damp floors in the front. My question is, when I rip the dashboard apart to replace the evaporator core is there anything I can look for/do to prevent this from happening?

My 98 had that problem. The seal between the a/c box and the firewall leaked. Used some silicon from the engine compartment to seal it up. Not the best design if i say so. Hasn't leaked in 3 yrs.

Finally, I know enough to help someone else. I'm 99% sure, that you have a clogged tube that lets the condensation out.
Look under the hood, on the firewall, on the passenger side, between centerline and the passenger wheel. there will be a stubby black hose that looks like a heater hose that is cut off. It may be pointed down, and it will be about 3 or 4 inches long.
Pull that hose off with your hand (a good tug will be all that's needed), and look inside it.
When you do, expect a good whoosh of water as it spills out on the driveway underneath.
Put that hose under the faucet, and clear out the clog. Put it back on with your hand.
That should do it.
It would be CRAZY to do an evap core replacement if the clogged hose is all it takes to fix it.

I just swapped the evaporator and heater core on my 99. It's PITA, if you would like any help or pointers, pm me. I would gladly help if I can!
My evaporator core was bad, btw which is why I did that.
