How do you remove gear shift knob (automatic)
2014 Cherokee - The plastic piece you squeeze to change gears broke off. I can still shift without any issues but it doesn't look real nice. Dealer said you need to purchase entire shift **** kit at $66. How do I remove the old one?
Thanks

diskman is right, pull straight up.
Hit it straight up with the handle of a hammer if it needs a tap.
In a pinch while its off you can still use it without the handle by pushing down with your thumb to shift.
Trip to the salvage yard will pay off here for replacement.
If you have a 97-01 I have NO Idea

'97-01 is the same- just yank on it real hard and try not to hit yourself in the face when it pops off.
Also helps to put it in 3rd (ebrake on) to get a better angle.
