I'm about to go check out a few XJs (96-99) and since I can't trust a used car dealer, I'm stuck trusting my own inspection. I'd love to take the vehicles in to a mechanic, and I might be able to swing that once or twice, but I'm only available to check out rigs on the weekends when the shops are closed. As a result, I'm on my own. So...what elements should I check (e.g., which fluids, rust, how do you check for a good auto trans, etc.)?
