If you have access to a compressor try an air-hammer with a pickle-fork.

You can also cut off the rod (on the old damper) and press out the end with a ball-joint press:http:http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=972120 ..

Thanks. I borrowed a pickle fork from my neighbor in combination with a pitman arm puller and it finally popped. The pitman arm puller crushed the threaded end so I cut it off with a saws-all..........LOL it's been on there for 19 yrs.

Default Two Hammers

The trick for tapered bolts is to use two hammers. Simultaneously strike both sides of where the bolt is, not hard just firmly. The tapered bolt will fall out. Might take two strikes. I leave the castle nut on by a few threads, this prevents the part from falling to the floor when it pops out.
This also works very well for steering knuckles and removing drag-link from pitman arm.
