Default How do I lift my jeep myself?

the kit les scwab wants to sell me is like 900 bucks. man I don't think so. I can re-build a harley davidson, so I thought I could tackle this project. Where do I look for a kit? Does anybody have easy step by steps for me to go through?
and then onto some good 15x8 wheels and 31 inch tires?
I'm sure you fellas get this all the time. just thought I'd ask.

I have a 1998 Cherokee sport with faded trim lol.

Depends how high you want to lift it. For a small 2" budget boost, just to start you out you could use this write-up http://www.rocklizardfabrications.co...dget_boost.htm . That should give you some insight. It's not much, but it's something. You could always add to it later on with coil spacers up front and shackles in the rear. Good luck and Merry Christmas.

Do a search on lift kits on here to get the homework started, lots of guys are running rough country and rubicon express and seem to like them. I did a 3" skyjacker (a cross between brand loyalty and positive result in the past) and I only spent $800. A bit on the high side compared to the RC & RE from what I've read here. Lifts are pretty straight forward and spending some time searching lifts on here will clue you in on any possible probs. Everyone on here is super helpful.

suspension installs on an xj is very straight forward. you only issue might be the front bolt for the leaf spring.

Check out www.ironrockoffroad.com for suspension. They are great guys to deal with-with nice parts.

Very cool. Thanks much for the replies.

next question here, there must be a list here somewhere, how much a lift for how big of tire?

for instance: how big of tire for stock?

if I lift 2 inches how big of tire?

if I lift 3 inches (which looks like a strong possibility) can I still fit 31's?

thanks much!

3" kits and 31" tires are very common. You should be able to do that with little issue. It might rub a little, depending on the back spacing of the wheels you choose, but that can be fixed with a little trim work.

Wow, thanks again. I've been reading about this all night, I'm lookin at this site to maybe buy from. 3.5 seems to be the way to go.

http://www.suspensionconnection.com/...on/438003.html

plus, I think thats my favorite look. 3.5 lift with 31's and a 15x8 wheel.

Blocks will compound axle wrap and cause your leafs to flatten out in no time at all. I wish the darn things had never been invented.
