Pulll the low pressure return line, put it in to a gallon bottle... start engine and dump in the new fluid as the old is running out do not let it run dry...

is the low pressure one the big one that screws on or the smaller one with a clip?

ive got a leak in the big one, does that make a diff w/ pouring the new in as the old is going out?

i notice you have a 89 too. i have the 89 with the 4.o and need to change my pump, any recommendations, i have found anywhere from 66 - 300 dollar pumps. my jeep is stock and dont do anything too agressive but i figure if i am going to do it do it right the first time, on that note do you think its a backyard mechanic job?

Ive only had my jeep for about 2 monthhs, so I havent really done too much to it. I think changing the pump should be pretty easy, and could be done in the back yard, as far as I can tell all youll need is some open end wrenches... I would go with an OEM replacement pump, it shouldnt be too expensive.

"hats funny i have only had my jeep for 4 weeks, its my first, pump is next on my to do list, then save up for a lift, radio speakers and cb"
I got mine with a sony cd player, pioneer speakers, 3"rough country lift, knocking motor 2 qts low on oil, bald tires, rust, holes in the floor, power door locks that dont work, bad steering bushings, butchered wiring, stock rims, etc. Its gonna be a project, and I havent drove it more than 5 miles, but I love it already... So far Ive changed the oil and put Aux lights on it, and a elec. fan switch...

OP, im not sure if you can just drain it or not. Ive read that youre not supposed to run them dry..
and make sure you use POWER STEERING FLUID not ATF...
