So any answer as to how exactly this improves the truck, besides taking a whole 10lbs off? i still dont get how taking off the AC is beneficial and what to do with the hoses when you do?

 

Thanks but i was helping my cousin over the phone to fix his seized A/c pulley, he ended up making a braket that worked and idk why he needed my help, i guess unsure of the whole thing

The point of removing the A/C compressor would be to lessen the drag on the accessory drive, which will increase throttle response and squeeze some hp out of it.

Does anybody know if you can get rid of the AC/idler pulley all together? I already got rid of my mech fan and its pulley. Now that i'm thinking about it i may fab up a bracket to replace my ac with the alt. hmmm

what do you do with the hoses? tape them up?

 

My 90 cherokee didn't come with a/c and it uses an idler pulley in place of the compressor. So they do exist if anyone was wondering.

The hoses unscrew, Take them loose and toss them. The electrical connection can be taped up. The condenser (in front of the radiator) can then be removed and increase your airflow to the radiator. Less drag on the motor, less weight (minimal weight loss), less cluttered engine bay.

My air has never worked, and no condenser or hoses there, I intend on turning the pump in to a compressor set-up though rather than go with an idler pulley.

 

to answer the question of why in case it hasnt been already, it that most ppl that take it out use the spot where the compressor was to mount either a second alternator or move the alternator from the worst spot ever for wheelers(bottom of the motor!) so it doesnt get too wet
