What's the difference between your leafs sitting on blocks or sitting on the axle perches that are the same dimensions? I have 1.5" blocks on my rears, they work great. Eventually I'm going to go ahead and buy a set of 4.5" leafs but for now they are great.

I have always wondered why people say blocks are so bad....I mean i understand if you put like a 5" block under there...... because of axle wrap...but a 1 or 2 inch?
I have ran blocks on every 4wd I have ever owned and never had any problems beacuse of them...just like mentioned before...as long as the U-bolt torque is right......the leafs are sitting on the exact same surface size and dimensions....
Not trying to be a smarta$$....i would just love for someone to give a legitimate reason why they are so bad...besides...."cause i said so"

stock jeeps get axle wrap. jeeps have very flexy rear leaf packs and are spring over axle. not a good combination from the get go. I have already stated that stock jeeps get axle wrap so what happend when you increase the amount of leverage that the axle has on the leaf. Most of the time it will just wear the spring down faster but i have seen leafs snap before. I have even seen a cherokee that had blocks get its drive shaft pulled from tcase becasue the spring torqed enough to let it out.Originally Posted by Marine10

think of it like putting a 4ft cheater bar on a 1/4in rachet. it will work to get the bolt out but isnt exactly safe

I have blocks on my 6.5" RC lift and I beat the living heck out of my XJ wheeling. My blocks have never given me any single prob. I just put spacers on my front coils and new blocks with my 6.5" RC lift. No prob. Shackles can create way more axle wrap. When the axle is compressed it wraps the axle upward really badly. I would stay away from shackles that are to big and I would stay away from blocks that are to big. 2" blocks are fine.

Instead of blocks or ludicrously long shackles, try these, and a basterd leaf pack:

As you can see they give 1.5" while also allowing your leaf to fully flex.
(shackle has more travel...ect)
There is welding involved, but that shouldn't be too much of an expense even if you out-source the work (I do my own welding)
I'm putting these in my rig, seemed like a sensible option, though a little pricey. The quality is awesome though, these things are beefy!
Oh and if your going to 4.5, you will have to do the drive-line shuffle (SYE, new DS, degree shims on the leaf pack, Adjustable trackbar, break lines ect...ect...money money money)

ugh, Im an onld school guy, blocks where all we had to lift leafed vehicles back when I was a teen. LOL FRONT AND REAR. I had a cj on 3 inch front and rear in 86 lol
