without any kind of trimming i would go with a 6.5" lift. Get a slip yoke eliminator which you might or might not need. I would also take the 33" tires and make sure they are 10.5" wide. 33"x10.5"x15"

i think before you do any lift you better read up. there are some people that have had to do alot of work to get the 33's on and their experience will help you out alot. 33's = $$$$$.
what kind of wheeling you gonna do? do you really need 33's? these are good questions to ask yourself.
oh and im not being a dic, i just want you to know what your getting yourself into....

look into mudder 31's and see how you like them. 3inch lift would set you straight, and if they dont work out for you, resell them and do a little more lifting.

well i mean you can trim and get 33's under 3" or even stock if you trim enough. you can also get 33" under 4.5" it just all depends on how nice you want to do. if you don't plan on a long arm kit i wouldnt go higher than a 4.5

well right now i have a 6 to 6 1/2" lift on my jeep. i currently have 31" tires and they do not rub at all. the tires are getting bald and i am going up to 33's. the tire diameter is too big for the fenderwell so if you are planning on not cutting your fenders or not bushwhackering it than i would stick with 31s. also, when you go to a tire that big on a cherokee you are going to run into some problems. there is ALOT to think about going that big.

The ideal setup, based on my research, is 4.5" - 5" of lift with 33x10.5's on 15x7 with 4.0" backspacing. You will have to bumpstop it correctly so it stops the tire at the point of touching your fenders at full stuff. It should work out pretty well.

I am at 4.5" with 31x10.5's on 3.75" backspaced 15x8's and i had to trim because they stick out too far and rub on the lower corners of the fenders when turning. I did not rub with my previous 4" backspaced 15x7's.

Here is my 2 bits and recommendations. If you're sold on the 33s that is what you need to start with. Decide on a tire size and build your Jeep to take your driving style with that size of a tire.
If you don't want to cut up the fneder wells, you need a 6-6.5" lift. For 33s I'd recommend going with 12.50 wide. For that size of a tire not to rub inside you will need a wheel with 3.75-4.0 back spacing or if you're sold on your stock wheels you will need a 1.5" wheel spacer. I like my stock rims so that is route I went. Back spacing is important or your new big meats will rub your front Lower Control Arms and rear leaf springs.
To have your same throttle response when you "floor it a lot"...LOL. You will need to re-gear to at least 4.56. If you want a little more MMMFFF, I'd go with 4.88s. Depends on if you really want the throttle response and low gearing for wheeling or if you want to keep your MPG. I run 4.56s and 32" tires and if I maintain 70-75 on the highway, I get 20-22 MPG with my 4.0 HO motor and automatic tranny. My crawl ratio, with the AW4 auto tranny on the trail works good, too. I hope this helps.

and for the ring and pinion, i think it is all up to you. you are going to loose some power so if you want that back than yes you should get bigger gears. i personally think that if you are not going to be goin crazy in your jeep than you should be ok.... i have wheeled my jeep alot for almost three years now with the 3.55's in it and it got the job done... now that i dont drive my jeep on the road anymore i am going to put 4.11's or 4.56's in it to get some power out of it.... its all about what you use your jeep for and if you really want the little bit of power back that you lost.

Yeah, the auto tranny makes living with your stock gears and bigger tires pretty easy. You will love 4wheeling with your new lift and bigger tires but, stand by for your MPG and get up and go, to suffer a little.
Also........big item to note is that when you go from stock gears to a gear ratio lower than 4.10, you will have to buy different carriers for your dana axles. So, if your parts guy tells you that. he isn't BSing you to get more money out of you. It is a true thing.
