Default how to adjust shift linkage??

can someone maybe do a quick write up on how to adjust my t-case shift linkage, i tried, i loosened the bolt and that rod thingy doesnt seem to move, are there some tricks to doing this? or am i just dumb

If you have a manual it explains the procedure. If not I recall putting the shift lever as far to the rear as possible and insert a 1/8 thick shim between the shift lever and the back of the opening. under the XJ loosen the trunion bolt and make any adjustments. retighten the bolt and thats it.
