How-To: 91-96 2.5 specific cherokee cluster swap
the swap from the idiot light cluster to the gauge cluster is almost identical to the 4.0 cluster swap save for one small detail. I followed this swap instruction set to do mine on my 96 2.5 cherokee:
http://www.baeta.org/opie/Gauge.htm
the oil pressure sensor and temperature sensor for the 91-96 2.5 AND 4.0 cherokees with gauge clusters are the exact same.
so yeah, you can rob all the parts from a more readily available 4.0 cherokee in the junkyard. I used all junkyard used parts for my swap if you wanted to know.
anyway, the BIG difference is that for some ungodly reason, dodge decided to use a different connector for the oil pressure sensor with an idiot light. you'll need the proper connector if you want that factory look to your swap (or you can rig it up with a splice connector I guess).
anyway, the idiot light sensor has a round terminal which tapers in. the gauge sensor has a flat blade terminal which is wider and you cant even squeeze it in.
just clip the harness connector off at the junkyard and splice it in when you do this and the cluster will be fully functional.
here's the round idiot light terminal:
here's my cluster working but before I spliced in the correct connector (I'd have one after but my camera battery died, it does work fine though)
