Search:https://www.cherokeeforum.com/search...earchid=531134

It all depends on how much HP you are looking for, and what you consider cheap...

bored throttle body.... Or if your jeep is lifted with bigger tires you need to regear. That wont add horsepower but you will totally feel a difference in accelaration.

Hey if you find anything on "cheap Horsepower" let me know because i have been seaching for sometime. A lot of my mods are just reclaiming lost HP that years of use have taken away. the list begins

1. K&N 6"/9" CAI
2. 2.5inch exhaust
3. high flow cat
4. Flowmaster 40
5. Bored TB
6. Seafoam
7. tune-up with premium stuff
8. assorted small mods.

All that and I'm up to a Dino tested 202hp... no big improvement...
IF you can afford to get a 4.5L and throw that in with a turbocharger...there you could put out around 400HP. But even if you do all the work that will cost around $5000.

Is there a procedure for regearing? Do I just pull some gears from the junkyard XJ's and swap them out? I tried the search feature but couldn't find any good writeups. I have a 4-speed manual transmission with a 4banger and 31" tires, wouldn't mind a slightly stronger gear ratio.

Unless you have the proper tools to setup gears you will want a shop to do this. They are not a bolt in part.

You would need a 4.10:1 regear I believe. Just go online and search for that. They sell kits. Rusty's offroad sells them...best price I found. Go to their site and click one the driveline link and then you can find the gear page. Im deffinatly going to regear my axles with 4.56:1 ratio, but im running 33's.

Seafoam is sweet. Additive to crankcase, gas tank, and/or intake to break down carbon deposits and scrub cylinder walls. Put it in yer Jeep. http://www.seafoamsales.com/

haha right after I read this post I searched seafoam haha. I think I'll give it a try myself, since my rig has close to 200,000. Plus my new exhaust is going in this week. I want everything to be clean and ready for the flowmaster super 44 and the 2.5in pipe....

seafoam is a additive for gasoline and oil that works as an injector cleaner, stabilizes gas, and when added to oil helps remove gummy deposits inside the engine. can be used in oil, gas, and diesel fuel.

This will tell you everything you need to know. I use it in my jeep, diesel pickup, boat, snowmobiles, ATVS, lawn mower... everything.

old engines can be found at junkyards in all shapes and sizes and with just a little skill (not that much if I can do it ) you can fit almost anything in any jeep ive ever seen.I know a lot of guys realy like there 4.0 but theres no replacement for displacement especialy if your starting with a 4banger
