Default Horn stuck on and burned out

I was driving on the motorway yesterday when all of a sudden my horn started blaring constantly. I pulled over to try and disconnect it but before I could work out how to do this (I won't lie, I'm not very mechanically skilled).

Before I could work it out, the horn started to sound a little distorted and about a minute later, it had stopped completely and there was a slight burning smell. The horn does not operate at all now.

What is likely to be the cause of the issue and what steps do I need to take to identify the cause and fix it to get my horn working again.

Please be gentle with me and treat me like an idiot. As mentioned above, I'm not the most mechanically minded person in the world.

Cheers!

If it started on its own it could be a short circuit in the steering column. The horns themselves maybe dead but you will probably want to do a search on here to find the location of the horn relay & pull it.

What year? Air bag? Different years use different parts. Amazing, I know.

It's a 2001 2.5td Orvis (UK jeep).

Could be a bad or broken clock spring causing a short (common) or a short, elsewhere. I'll let someone with more experience on modern XJs tackle this one, mine is old-school.
