Hey guys. Looking for some advice. So about 8k ago I swapped out the 0331 heah in my 01. It didn't have the cracked head but I wanted to change it for the piece of mind. I installed a new HD Clearwater Head. Hasn't overheated once, and trust me I watch that gauge religiously. Recently I've been noticing a coolant lose. No leaks on the ground or anything. No white exhaust smoke. The amount of coolant lose is on the reservoir, last night I filled it to full, this morning I checked it and it was at the add line. Maybe 10-20oz? I checked my compression about a month ago and it was 150 dry across all 6. There is a slight swirl of milkyness in the radiator. Checked the dipstick and oil looks ok and is in the normal range. Could it be a bad head gasket? I know I need to recheck compression....could tranny oil be getting into the antifreeze and by chance the radiator wasn't completely full pulling it from the reservoir?.
Just hoping it's not the head gasket.....DD and 10 degree weather doesn't help.

Oil cap and valve train looks clean. No mixture in the oil. No abnormal engine sounds...ticking and such.

Autozone, among others, should have a kit so that you can test for combustion gasses in the coolant.

Think it may be my reservoir is dirty and some of the nasty looking coolant got pulled into the rad. I'll take that out clean it and fill with fresh coolant

Coolant leaks can be sneaky. I had one from the upper hose where it attaches to the radiator and it was dripping down onto my tow hook. I never found it for weeks cause I diddnt see drops on the ground. But if your losing that much I'm sure there would be some marks on the ground...just keep looking man

I may have to agree Lowrange lol. Thinking it's the changing levels in the tank, never knew they go up and down when operating temps change...car running vs car been sitting.... either way I am going to take the tank off, clean it out, have the system flushed and pur in new coolant as I haven't flushed the system yet.

I have no milky oil, no power lose, no change on dipstick, coolant temp stays the same, I've never had it go over 210 since I've owned it and with the new head.

I do get a slight antifreeze smell after I get done driving around...approx. 20-30 min drive...
