Hood vents for Cherokees
think about it under your hood is not air or water tight. I have the same hood vents from a lebaron as my brother winston427. I have noticed 10 to 20 degree running difference on the highway and runs alot cooler offroad when you really need it.
Anyone buy and install "genright" brand hood vents on an XJ? They have a kit for $50 which ive been thinking about getting, comes in silver or $60 for black powder coat. they look kinda small and not as aggressive as the "runcool" brand, but they cost 100 less than runcool which is enough to make me settle for them.

i first came accross them on ebay, but it was a 3-piece kit designed for YJ's so i googled genright hood louvers and got this:

the only ones that would make sense on an XJ are the 2 short ones that would mount in the back close to center, or the long skinny ones.

i kinda like how the short genrights look square and i think they would fit in nicely with the XJ styling, versus the runcool ones which have a trapezoid shape to avoid the hood crossrails and maximize surface area. the runcool ones have a lot more louvers tho, but i suppose the genright ones have enough. i might go with genright on my black 2001 xj.. do you think black is better or silver? i feel like silver might stand out too much but black might not stand out enough.

I got mine off of a nissan something, like the old z cars. The passenger vent opening is smaller so it misses the distributer. Junkyard is the way to go for vents.

yeah the Lebaron vents look assume! But I would never cut a hole in a good hood (or roof). It will soon leak in a way you never imagined. I'm gonna look for a set of those to put in my XJ when I get it painted.

I used a set of third gen. Trans-am vents on mine. Dose have hard starts after a good all night rain though. Also picked up a set of Lebarron vents for $2.95 at local yard. Found them on a turbo new yorker. Now I just need a new hood to cut.
