Hood Not Opening on 94 XJ
Hello, my XJ's hood won't open by the hood release under the dash. It won't even pull open one of the latches in the corners, So if anyone could help me out here. and if you know how to adjust the cable also that would help out greatly because i'm pretty sure that's the problem is it's way to loose now to open either latches because previously it would only open one. and then I had to pull it really far back to open the opposing side.

The cable that operates the openers may have broke. You probably gonna have to open it manually.I haven't had that issue,YET.
Good luck.
Good luck.

I just got on my back and reached up and pulled the linkage to the passenger side. (iirc) My arm got kinda chewed up buy the lower fan shroud bracket though.
It was a real pita, but it worked. I noticed that my cable had jumped out of its little plastic clip leading to all the slack in my release cable.
Hope this is helpful.

I just make sure to check the linkage every time I'm under the hood now.
I just wanted to check the oil lol. When I got to work, my boss wouldn't let me clock in. So outta bordom and desperation I tried that in the parking lot.
And of course, my hand and arm was somewhat greasy lol. I LOVE my XJ and all her charms.

thank you guys very much! I'm going to get it open like the naxja post said to reach up in between the electric and mechanical fan, and pull the release manually. but I have a third question now has anyone any idea how to put hood pins on the jeep? this is just going to be a good excuse to do something i've always wanted to do on this regardless. so if anyone has a good how to or some tips that'd be great =D

Good choice! I just put hood pins in mine last week. My cable kept popping out of the clips when i was wheeling and i had to crawl under and chew my hand up like you. Look where the latches latch to, it's a small bar right next to the tension springs, cut those with and angle grinder so that it wont latch or take the latches out with a torx bit and cut the cables out. Once it's disabled, find the bolt that keeps the bar in place and take it out, now you have a hole to put the hood pins in, put them in and lower the hood, mark off where they contact and drill the two holes in the hood, around the holes so it wont rust and that's that

alright thanks man I knew it was simple. but i'm taking the springs from the old latch mechanisms and mounting them up front so it'll hold up the hood enough for me to always be able to pull it up easily when the pins aren't in. I got the idea of NAXJA it works fantastic so far. but I still gotta get the pins this weekend after I get paid to finish it all.
