The swivel consisted of a 1 1/4" sch.40 pipe on top of a 1" sch. 40 pipe and then a 3/4" bushing inside of that. Then I used a bolt for the actual pin.

i would like to build one of these, but i like being able to see out of my rearview. im going to come up with one that doesnt move off the hatch, just reenforce it so when you lift the hatch the carrier goes up with it. basically just attatch it to the hatch itself and move the license plate

Amazing work man! I was wonder what you used for the angle iron and flat stock metal peices. I would like to build my own just would like to get some demenions before i start. I got 2x3 3x3 angle iron but i don't think its big enough as far as the flat stock goes i got 1" - 4".
