ok i plan to rig up a cone filter and i can do it no problem BUT i forgot about that line running fromt the valve cover to the airbox so my question is how do i bypass that so i can do my air box mod and just to clear things up i will be removing my airbox not just putting a cone filter in it

 

well you can always take it out and put a lil breather in..

its like a lil cone filter made for this sort of stuff.. bc that line what does is lets some air in the valve cover,, so many people (on the car customs world) get aftermarket intakes and put a breather there , you can find them at any auto parts.. its a oil breather lil filter..

k thanks guys im going to ask my shop teacher tomarrow about it too he knows everything about the 4.0 so he should have some good info but that all sounds pretty good

 

just make sure that thing coming form the valve cover is good, bc mine was throwing oil out, and I didnt know till the breather was all coverd up in it and oil ran all threw the engine

 

Yeah a breather attached to the hose end would do exactly what the air box does stock and prevent oil blow by from getting back into the intake.

I think it needs the vacuum at the intake tube so you need to tie it back into the hose from the TB to the airfilter. The vacuum provided by the intake will scavenge the oil fumes inside the valvecover. JMHO.

well i talked to my teacher who worked at the jeep dealership in the cherokees prime and he said it would be fine if just got a breather so tomorrow i'll make a run over to muarrys and get a filter,breather,and a small peice of steel to make a reinforcement bracket

Went back to stock setup to eventually run an Airflow snorkel.

 

sweet, some custom hot air intake setups here.

truth is you will see no gain from this, but you would like to think so.

anyway what you are talking about putting a little "filter" on is an emissions control device, when the exhaust gasses sneak by the rings and whatnot they are stuck in the crankcase, that tube is there to recirculate those exhaust gases so they go through the cat and out the tailpipe with their buddies. i know people who argue they got a cone filter for the cleaning aspect of it. truth is they almost never clean them. It will take several stock filters to ustify the cost of one cone filter.

This may be true but today i did fab my own up using a cone filter, 4 inch spacer, and a peice of steel. and it did inprove my throttle responce quite a bit also seems more "peppy" now
