^^This..
As someone who did the body work, sanded the hell out of my rig prior to spraying I could kick myself in the a$$ for getting lazy and not color matching jambs.

I've been struggling with the same question. The body shop I'm using charges $3500 to prep and repaint the same color. A color change is an additional $400 to the pinch welds. I think it also included under the hood.
I'm more or less decided on going with designo graphite metallic, Mercedes code 041. I thought about painting it purple to match my 04 GTO, but somehow I don't think it would work as well on a stock XJ.
My thought in choosing a color was that I wanted a color that wasn't extreme, but would stand out to people familiar enough to know it isn't a stock color.

Painting is DONE !
Stayed with original color, Black.
Used PPG single stage. 3 coats.
Spray gun is LVLP from summit racing. 1.4 tip.
Seemed like less over spray than a HVLP gun.
Used 1/2 gallon, but did not spray roof.
Got it out in the sun today. Looks good

I'm curious as to what the cost was to do it yourself including the paint and gun costs... Been thinking about doing mine as well.
