Highway speed vibrations, what now?

you did not say if the vibes changed sound at all after rebuilding drive shaft... same vibes as before or different ? did you rebuild or replace the centering bearing when rebuilding the CV joint ?

Good idea, I could probably borrow a shaft and try it out.

Vibes were pretty much the same in terms of sound. But they came earlier and were worse than before, with more overall shaking. I replaced the whole centering unit when I did the rebuild.

Were all the u-joint caps freely moving. Sometimes while putting them together you can squish them together too hard making them bind. They should all be loose and "floppy". If you squished them together too tight, that will cause vibrations.
