Exclamation High RPMs when clutch engaged. Need Help

Just recently I started experiencing some problems with the RPMs when I push in the clutch to shift. Doesn't happen all the time, but lately more so than not.. What happens is I'll push in the cluth to shift and the RPMs will shoot up to anywhere between 2-5k but as soon as I shift gears it drops to normal. Any idea of what this could be? Any help at all would be great! Thanks

I was thinking that.. but wouldn't the RPMs be higher than normal in neutral when stopped at a light as well?

Not all the time. I would be leaning toward a TPS or a heavy foot!

How can I diagnose this? Also, if it is the TPS does it necessarily have to be replaced?

Or is there something I can do to fix it?

It would help to have a scan tool while driving... then you could monitor what the TPS is actually doing when the problem happens.
