Default High Rpm's, low gas mileage

I have a 1997 xj, 4.0 HO, Auto tranny.

Its running around 2000 rpm's at 60mph and wont shift untill around 2300 rpms. Im getting around 10mpg. I just replaced the TPS and cleaned the throdle body and IAC. And now its idleing fine when i start it but then after i drive it it idles around 1400 rpms. Any ideas or suggestions?

search "high idle" not to be an ***** but there is just too many things that can cause it i.e. vacuum leaks, cracked exhaust, it could be more than one issue causing the problem so research everything
I did like 5 things and every time my idle came down just a bit

My main concern isnt the high idol, its that its running at 2000 rpm's at 60mph and killing my gas mileage.

Basically your saying your not shifting into OD until 2300rpms or are all of your shifts late ? Once my jeep gets above 2000rpm I can hear the sucking sound of 4$ a gallon gas...

All of my shifts are late. I do my best to keep it under 2000 rpm but it would take me like 2 min to reach 45mph. When it shifts into 2nd and 3rd it only drops like 200 maby 300 rpm. But when it shifts into 4th it goes down to around 1300 and then climbs from there as i accelerate. So idk. I got the xj on tuesday and im just tryin to work out all the buggs. Maby thats normal?

My 90 does this, im told to replace the TPS and have it set correctly, but it sounds like another issue for you. My 97 on the other hand shifts great, Overdrive kicks in at 41 mph everytime, i run 70 mph right at 1900 rpms. 31's with 3.55s. is yours 3.55 gears? what size tires?
