High Idle Switch Install: Problems?
Im in the midst of installing a high idle switch in my '00 XJ. Ive followed the the write up in the Technical section but for some reason its not working. I taped into the correct gray wire(Pin A12), ran it to the switch, and then grounded it to the left cigarette outlet.
As of right now, when I turn my vehicle on, in Park or Neutral, nothing occurs when I engage the switch. I bought a lighted toggle switch off Amazon. I realized now that its a 3-way switch; ground(off), positive(12v), then some other tab with a light symbol(20A). Im no good with electrical stuff, what am I doing wrong?
Thanks guys
-Jon

Take the wire off the switch and ground it manually to the fire wall or other bare metal. If it works then the switch is bad or you wired the switch wrong. If it dosent work then your using the wrong wire or the connection is bad at the grey wire

I manually grounded out the wire and the idle increased properly. So my problem definitely lies with the switch. I thought this switch would be cool because of the engagement indicator light :/
**I looked back into my purchase history and it is a SPST style switch.
Heres a more detailed view of the switch.

you will need a standard relay to get the switch indicator to work.
hook the swich up like the symbols says, and have it control the relay.
the relay should be connected like this
pin 30 - ground
pin 87 - the gray wire to the ecu
pin 85 - ground
pin 86 - to outlet on the switch ( positiv when switch is on )
good luck with it

When I hook up the switch though, pin86 will connect to the "12v pole", then ground out the "ground pole", and the "20a pole" will be unused?

the switch would need a 12v +, a ground and then the wire to the relay. i cant from the pictures see what goes where. but if you take a new picture

I'm on an iPhone so it's to hard to find a link n post it for you... Do a search for threads I started. Last week I asked the same question about a lighted switch. There is some great info in that thread that got me hooked up correctly first try.

Thanks for the help guys, I think now I might actually be able to finish. I just ran to O'Reilly's and grabbed a relay. Im going to hook it up real quick and Ill report back shortly.
Thanks again for putting up with my ignorance! Trying to broaden my "electrical" capabilities

Quick update. Got everything finished! The relay was the missing link, major thanks to FL Denmark for clearing things up. I'm super stoked. Realize its not that huge of a mod, but it definitely was one of few electrical related conquests for me.

I did not use a relay and mine works fine.I tapped into pin a 12 and used a separate ground. I used an Oreilly 2pole switch.
