Default high idle 87 renix xj

Hello all i have run into an issue with my two 1987 cherokees. They Both seem to have an issue where they idle at max rpm's in park or neutral but when in drive they run at normal rpm's. Does anybody have an idea what could be causing this?

Ever since I cleaned my throttle body and the idle air control sensor, my renix idles around 1000-1100 rpms. When I'm in park or neutral it runs high. One day I'm going to replace see if that helps.

There's an idle screw that holds the throttle cable in a set postion on the back of the throttle body. I couldn't turn the set screw...so I bent the bracket stop just a wee bit AWAY from the set screw...WA LA!...she's idling at about 600 rpms...See attached pics....

Before you start bending brackets take a look at Cruisers tips, you need to do these on your Renix, don't skip any either.

Yeah! Like Jeepcrazy said. Try to fix the problem before you start bending parts and letting the real reason for the high idle to cause other problems.
