Default High Beams not working but blue light on dash is on...

First of all, this is my first post here. Been looking at the forum for a while now so I figured I'd post up since I'm stumped on this one. Its a 93 by the way. I've replaced the headlights themselves and the headlight switch. When I got the jeep the gauge cluster lights didn't work but the flash to pass fuse was blown. Changed that and the cluster lights work now. Still clueless on the high beams though. Any thoughts...

One place to look maybe could be your headlight relay... Excluding troubleshooting on the headlights themselves and the multifunction schtick.. (the high beam light works, although this may not be reason enough to exclude this piece, however I dont have the knowledge to advise you for this) Although I have heard relays are not known to fail.. As long as your pins for the headlight connectors are clean and intact, the next step would be to check the wiring. ie: Making sure the grounds are good, and as well the power wires... Done my best here, still learning on the ol' XJ as well.

Quick suggestion. Check your multi-switch connector under the column cover.
Same suggestion, longer read..

My brights wouldn't stay on in my '93.. they'd come on when i pulled the multi-function switch back partway(passing flash) but if i pulled it back to brights position, (click) they would go off as soon as I let go of the switch. I finally figured it to be the switch and started to remove it to replace it. When I went to remove the connector, I saw it was loose. (a bolt holds it together) I tightened the bolt and tried my brights with the switch all unhooked and they worked perfectly. Put it back together and drove it all day, then that night when I turned 'em on.. same problem. Took it apart again and a single wire had come out of the connector.(The brights wire, natch) You'll just have to see this bogus looking connector setup to believe it. Pinched the terminal so it fit tighter, back together, working fine since. Hope this helps

Strange kjc, on my 2000 I have to push the multi function stalk forward to turn on the brights (pull to flash). Jeeps, they are special.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Gonna start at the headlights themselves and work my way back to the switch next time I have a day off. I'll check the multifunction first though for any loose wires.

I would dearly like to know as well... I have a 94 Grand and the exact same thing, lows are good, switch to high beam and the blue idiot lights up but no beams. I'm going to assume the switch is good (blue light illuminating) but can't figure out where the relay is etc. Any place I can download a shop manual? This 94 is 'brand' new to me, just turned over 100k kms, very low millage!

Well, I was gonna try to tackle this problem today, but I got an invite to go offroading on some land with some buddies. Flipped the jeep on its side...lol. No damage besides some small dents. Next day off, I'm gonna figure it out though. Starting at the headlights with a test light and woking my way back to the new headlight switch I just put in. I will let you guys know as soon as I figure it out though.

If your bright light switch is on the column, i'd check there. My blue indicator light would light up, but no highbeams. I posted above about it, but my memory got me.. it wasn't the brights that didn't work after i 'fixed' it, it was the low beams. That was the wire that had come out of the harness connector itself. I had to drive home with brights on. Just another senior moment

Okay, figured it out. Started testing wires and came to the conclusion that I had some corroded or broken wires somewhere. I was getting 12 volts at the high beam wire (orange with a red stripe or maybe vice versa... don't remember) before the headlight harness under the airbox, but no 12 volts at the headlight plug. I just cut the high beam wire before that plug and spliced in a new wire and ran one to each headlight. Presto! Highbeams work again!
