Hi guys 4wd help please
Hi Guys
"The penny has finally dropped"
The wheel wobble i've been experiencing is when coming out of full time it is then stopping and getting stuck in part-time 4wd.
If i drive in a straight line it's fine but if i try to turn i will get the skip/wobble from the inside wheel
In part time if the wheels are locked together i.e. have to turn at the same rate then on a turn the inside wheel with a smaller radius will be trying to catch up or turn as much as the outside wheel and i will then have the infamous skip / wobble.
I hope i'm correct in what i've said.
There is still a lot of noise when going into and out of 4wd before there is full engage / disengagement, she never used to make this much noise and am wondering if there is anything i should be checking over i.e. fluid change etc.
All opinions appreciated.

My 93 has the same transmission ( selec trac) When i bought it the symptoms were the same as yours. I always engage / disengage in neutral on the flat with no load, or it will stick in diff lock causing transmission wind up as you described. To get it unlocked find some gravel or mud, or any roughish ground (the verge will do) and keep going forward then back to unwind it. You will hear a clunk when its free. It will be quieter in 2 wheel drive and the steering will go loose compared to what it was. You need to make sure that you engage / disengage when freewheeling in neutral, this ensures no load on the transmission and your problem will go. It is just a nack, practise on a quiet road then you will feel the difference, it is very important or sonner rather than later somthing will snap.

Ok it's not obligatory that you engage your four wheel drive before every off road track. Continue driving in 2wd also off road and select 4wd only if you find a spot that really needs it. Thats how you drive off road. When i go wheeling i stay 70% in 2wd, you will be astonished to see what the jeep can do in 2wd. It'll give you an idea of what you can do and what not and it's much more fun too.
The front wheel wobble is because it is stuck in 4wd part time, even if the light is off, even if the lever is somewhere else. You can shift from 2wd to 4wd FT while driving (stay under 20mph) but you need to come to a complete stop to shift to 4wd low.

Same here. I try to stay in 2WD kinda like a fuse for not getting stuck. I figure that if I can make it in 2WD and I get stopped, I can always use 4WD to get out. This method will not always work but it is a good guage of your capabilities as a driver and the capabilities of your Jeep.
