Either way the procedure is the same COS with the auto you have the flexplate and converter and with the stick you have the flywheel. Six one and half dozen the other.

mine is a sport 1996, click on my sig if you want a pic. i don't think trans is defining, you could probably have ordered both with either trans when new. classic usually has one color under the door trim outside, and sports will have two tone like mine. i do believe classic had a little taller suspension, and alloy wheels.
