You gotta do some diagnostics. Get under the truck and have someone turn the wheel back and forth. Check the tie rod ends, drag link, etc.

X2 on the steering linkage, take a grease gun with you. Seems tie-rod ends go first. Is there a gear-lash adjustment on the steering box?

Yes, there is an adjustment on the steering box, but be careful with it. Tightening too much can cause it to lock up when it gets hot, which in most instances while driving would be considered bad news... There are several threads about it on here though. Start with your linkages and TREs first.

10-4 Greg, probably shouldn't have mentioned it. It's the last thing, and it rarely helps. I've had great luck with my (stock) Jeep. I live 3 miles up a steep gravel road and no linkage issues THIS CENTURY! ( I did have to replace my grease gun though) D.

I've had some sloppy steering for a while and I just figured it out. for me it happened to be a loose bolt on the track bar relocating bracket from my lift kit.

also check the steering rod from the firewall to the gear box. it can have a half inch of play when ut starts going out.
