4.0 and yes a tow package...but it looks like it was installed a few years ago...not being factory... i was told to mark on the u joint then lift the rear axle untill the tires were off the ground then count how many times the u joint spins after 1 full tire rotation....and that will tell me my gearing without counting the teeth.

make sense?

Im going to try it tomorrow...when its not raining

3.55's are what automatic I6's had from the factory. If it had the factory tow package it would have 3.73's.

Not always, and it's hard to tell if it was truly equipped with the actual factory tow package, or if it was a cleanly installed aftermarket towing set up. If it is still stock, which it seems to be, then the best route to go would be the VIN. Call a dealer service dept., and give them the VINs from each Jeep, and they can tell you what gears came in them. With the VIN, a dealer service dept. can give you a lot of info on how your Jeep came from the factory. Counting the rotations is a great option as well. I'm 99% leaning toward 3.55s though...

yea man. marking the yoke and the wheel works. make a mark on the diff and the yoke so you get a good reference point. block the front wheels. im a safety nerd.
