Help: Source for Rear Wiper motor, 89XJ
The original rear wiper motor on my XJ died many years ago (like everybody else). The first time it died, I took it apart, cleaned up the gear box and got it working again. Don't remember how long that lasted (several years at least) but eventually it died again and has been dead for many, many years now. Today I completely disassembled everything and gave it a good cleaning. Almost everything looked OK and on re-assembly the motor worked again, the problem is there's a 'commutator' ring under the plastic worm gear and three contacts on the gearbox body which I assume are used for parking of the wiper. In my case one of the contacts is broken - actually rotted away - so although the wiper now works, it doesn't park. In any case, the assembly is on it's last legs with the plastic worm gear in barely usable condition and the motor running really roughly (even with the commutator ring spotless and the brushes in good shape) - i.e. time to replace.
So, does anyone know a source for a new replacement motor? Will motors from other model year XJ's work? Thanks for any advice.
Edit: Just found some new ones on ebay - a 'cardone' re-manufactured unit. Anyone have any experience with those?
