I found an in line six across town with only 80000 on it. But it is from a 2006 TJ and I noticed that it has a coil pack. Assuming the new years fired the plugs from the computer instead of a distributor? Or is the distributor still there on that motor? UGH

So the motor I found is from a 97 wrangler. Th only difference that I can't reconcile is that the mechanical fan is mounted on the water pump puller instead of its own separate pulley.
I assume that the A/C compressor and alternator bracket which holds my mechanical fan pulley from my XJ will plugnplay into the Wrangler motor so I can maintain the XJ mechanical fan/E-fan/belt arrangement?

TJ motors are a no-go.... can't use them at all. The holes for the motor mounts are located in different positions on the TJ blocks than the XJ blocks.
ZJ motor will work, and 4.0 from a YJ will work. TJ and WJ will not.

XJ Cherokee and ZJ Grand Cherokee 4.0L engine blocks interchange.
2000+ TJ Wrangler and WJ Grand Cherokee 4.0L engine blocks interchange.
XJ/ZJ blocks, and the 2000+ TJ/WJ blocks do not interchange without significant modifications. (1991 to 1995 YJ and 1997-1999 4.0L TJ Wrangler blocks will interchange in XJ/ZJ and visa-versa).
TJ/WJ 4.0L Engine blocks underwent clean sheet design changes effective in the 1999 WJ Grand and 2000 TJ Wrangler. These blocks are not interchangeable with XJ/ZJ engine blocks. The reason is motor mount bolt holes and belt driven accessory mounting bolt holes are in different locations, or not present at all, TJ/WJ vs. XJ/ZJ.

Thanks for that super valuable advice. I should be golden since it is a 1998 TJ then, correct?
According to this site the 97-99 TJ swap to 98 XJ is a green light...meaning the motor mounts are compatible and the belt driven accessories from my XJ will mount in the same fashion on the '98 TJ block and therefore clear the batter/fenders/shrouds/etc.
I just discovered the block casting number on my jeep to be 53010449AA, which is 99-2001. Someone told me that it could've been built late in 98. From what I have read here, there is no difference except that it is "a camshaft thrust plate block."
I would imagine that I need a to either find a motor with the same block number as mine unless the 1996-1998 models with block #53010449 is going to be a drop in.
Only 1997-99 TJ block will interchange with the XJ. No WJ.
Even though my XJ is a 98, it does not have a 53020569 casting number on the block, it has a 99 casting number: 53010449AA.
Is there a difference? Since the 99 block fits in a 98 XJ, that shouldn't mean the 53020569 TJ block won't fit properly, right? Unless the mounts/transmission placement was altered on the 98s that had the 99 block like mine.
I wish I just had the 98 cast number so there'd be no question.
