Yeah, definitely a chain. I've worked on a 94 YJ Wrangler that my son's buddy owns a few times. It has the 2.5 4 banger in it. That certain year of 2.5 pretty much looks like a 4.0 with 2 cylinders lopped off. So, I bet they share a lot of characteristics. Just nowhere near the same amount of *****.

Thanks guys, forgive me, I'm a Scotsman with an Irish wife living in Spain so I have had a lot of MISINFORMATION... and the wife while good at most things is a rubbish mechanic!

Short version...Bracket for power steering pump broke, jammed in behind pulley which stopped the engine turning. I've now freed this, and realise now that I have to replace the pump as Jeep won't start...How do I reset the timing. (All help most welcome)

Note: I was told by a Spanish mechanic this was the timing belt issue?problem, hence my first post! I had a feeling it wasn't. I'm a bit apprehensive letting them loose on my Jeep now.

I have tried to get manuals ...NO JOY!! The Spanish want to charge me an arm and a leg !! And I need them !
Kind regards Keith.

Keith,

I can't imagine your broken power steering pump bracket causing your Jeep not to start. Not having the serpantine belt driving your accesories would kill power steering, alternator output and cause the motor to over heat due to no fan or water pump turning. Is it gecranking but not starting? If it is cranking, check for spark at one of the sparkplugs. I suppose if your PS bracket break caused the motor to stop suddenly enough, that it could have caused a high mileage timing chain to jump a tooth or break. I, however, have never heard of this before.

Irish women are either super wonderful, or demon spawn from the netherworld...
Dated a few hot and sexy ones out here...Kelly Finnegan was one that sticks out in my mind...
(It's Chicago, I swear we have more Irish than Ireland...)
