Default help with parts xj decision

1rst off I got a 90 4dr 4x4 xj with the 4.0L. Runs great just needs exhaust cause it is rotted at cat and all the way back.. I bought a 93 2dr 2 wheel drive with the 4.0L. Owner said it overheated and lost pressure. I got it for 400 and thought if I can't get it running and sell it I will just use it for parts. I got it home and put a battery on it. The engine spins over like it has no compression in any cylinders. I looked thru the oil cap and the valves are moving, so it is gona be a very bad head gasket or timing chain jumped I guess. The oil is just black with no water signs.

Here is the delima, should I try and fix it and sell for some money or use it for parts for the 90. It has a 8.25 rearend and the 90 has the dana 35. My grill and header panel is messed up and I can use the 93 parts. The interior and body is very decent about the same as the 90. Also the exhaust is good on the 93.

Should I keep it and use parts like starter, alt, fans and such when mine go out. I don't have a problem fixing it, just trying to resell it.

Timing chains don't jump, they stretch , and not enough to through anything off bad enough so it wont start, unless it breaks/broke. The 8.25 in the 93 is only 27 spline so it wouldn't be very much of an upgrade to the d35 at all. Keeping stuff like the starter and alt. from the 93 would be a good idea.

Is it enuf of a upgrade to warrant swaping rearends? All I hear on here is how weak the 35 is.

I would keep what you ever might use and I mean ever. There are a lot of differences in those years. The 8.25 is a rock star of a stock axle in my experience the open collent system is also far better. But there are tons of great parts on both parts you can use or sell or trade. And up here scrap is still 200 a ton so the shell can still help you get some of your cash back or buy a spair motor ot trans. I would save all but the 2wd frunt and shell. Cause if you need to buy something later it'll cost a lot more!
