im just learning about how to fix my jeep . i dont know nothing about electical stuff

Ignition switch, not the part the key goes in but the part at the bottom of the column, mines done this twice in the course of 20k, gets really hot and melts.

Take a look at it, not an expensive part and not to bad to fix, you have to lower the steering column, only two bolts hold it in.

I hate to say it but I think you may be in for some more education. You may not know about electrical, but its part of your Jeep. But I can understand not wanting to overstep your boundaries. I had to take my fiance's TJ to the stealership recently. Sometimes there are things out of your current league.

Sounds like you gotta either take it to a place or learn wiring on a Cherokee.

Here is what it sounds like to me. The "black box" isn't there because the previous owner removed it to do some "custom wiring". You might want to take a look in the cig lighter to see if there is a coin or something in there. I have seen that many times. If not, you might want to take it to someone to diagnose the electrical problem.
