Help no start cold! 99 xj
Ok, so my 99 xj starts and runs great when its warm. If I leave it outside overnight it just cranks. Sometimes if I cycle the key 5-10 times it would start so I thought it was a fuel pressure issue. Sounded to me like the fuel pump wasn't holding the pressure so I changed it. Didn't change..... So the next time it acted up I checked for spark at the spark plugs and there was nothing there. Ok, so it could be the coil or the CPS. Wigled the CPS wiring and it started. Sounds easy enough, replaced it and left it outside overnight....still didn't start in the morning. I checked for spark again, still nothing. This time I checked for spark off the coil and nothing. I checked to see if the coil is getting power and its getting 6.2v when the key is in the running position. So I replaced the coil. Still didn't start and no spark. I pushed it back into my garage and gave it 2 hours and it started right up.....AHHHHHHHH!

Hmmmm interesting... Have you had your battery Load tested. It may stay charged at 12 volts but you could be losing the CCA (Cold Cranking Amps). Just a thought. Otherwise I would have said CPS lol. Good luck.

This may sound weird but it happened to us a few weeks ago, my truck was doing the same thing, what seemed to fix it was changing the air filter, the dirt was crystallizing in it and it wasn't letting enough air pass through it. Sounds weird but it worked for me.

If you are only getting 6.2 volts then wiggle the wires and it starts I would suspect a bad or broken connection somewhere along the line but not at the battery terminals. If you have enough current to crank it you should have more than enough for the ignition circuit. Follow the wires back and find the broken/wet/corroded wire and you will solve the problem.

if some thing is not reciveing the proper current the computer should store a code even if the check engine light is not on checking for codes can assist in aiming you in the right direction
Scanned it, no codes found. Checked voltage at the coil in my garage with key at run position and its at 5-6 volts, also checked it while cranking and its closer to 10 volts then. I am thiniking computer problem, I am going to remove the computer and put it outside to freeze, then plug it back in and try it again.
