HEY... my question is this. my girl friend has a 92 xj with a 4 litre from a 98 zj.... i was told the trannys wer both AW4's and i tried to switch her tranny after hers blew up.... it didnt fit correctly. what is the difference im lost plz help me. she needs her daily driver back

OP... both trannies ARE NOT AW-4s..... The XJ is... the ZJ would be one of the RE series trannies.

a 42RE if its a 4.0l
a 44RE if its a 5.2l
a 46RE if its a 5.9l

i was just under the impression that only the motor got swapped....not the hole works

you need a 91-96 aw4

the engines will work, but not trannys

 

could you elaborate...

 

I think we need a lot more info from you as to what was swapped. But the flywheels will be different between that needed for the 42RE of a ZJ and the AW4 of the XJ. Perhps that is all the difference for you?
