Default Help Me Out Guys (Transmission)

Okay, I posted back in November or December about my Jeep Cherokee's 5-speed tranny whining. Does it in 1st, 2nd alot, 3rd slightly, and 5th at low RPMS (less than 1400). I figured I have bearing issues in the transmission. So I put the transfer case in neutral and ran through the gears, no whine. Is this due to no load being put on the bearings? I know its not the rear end making the noise. It is right around the shifter, maybe lower in the floor I hear the noise. I changed the transmission fluid last weekend to Pennzoil Syncromesh ( I know everyone prefers MT90). It shifts literally 100 times better now, but no difference in the whine. What do you all think it is? Could it last a long time with this whine? 1999 Jeep Cherokee 4.0 AX15 5speed. 143,700 miles. I have put 8,000 miles on it, transmission has not got any louder or quieter, and shifts like butter with no issues. Thanks.

I bought a new 5 speed chevy pick up years ago and my tranny would whine........ I had a friend in the truck with me trying to diagnose the noise. Guess what he told me??? "Take your hand off the shifter"
Whine went away...........
Not saying it's the cause of your problem but I still laugh at myself.
I hope it's that easy for you.

Gears will make some noise. If it hasn't changed or gotten "crunchy" sounding you'll most likely be fine.

Shifts fine. Quiet in neutral. Just kinda like a growl, and increases with rpm. Not a high pitch rough whine like in reverse. Definitely most noticeable in 2nd gear.
