Default Help me find a radiator cap (Yes I know about Stant 10230)

1989 Jeep XJ 130,000 miles 4x4 auto. BUT I HAVE A 91-95 RADIATOR OPEN COOLING SYSTEM.

Haha. I already know that many recommend Stant 10230 but it looks like a 3 to 4 day wait if I get that one. I also only see them at Amazon (is it real?) and Walmart.com. So, are there any at the big box stores that are of quality, or another Brand besides Stant, or is it worth waiting on the Stant? Recently had a near overheating issue (I've always stopped and turned it off to cool before it reaches the red, now or any trouble I've ever had in the past, which has been about 4 years).

So I flushed my hoses, heater core, etc and put in a new radiator only so far. It is definitely doing better and has not run hot enough again for me to cut it off, but I have noticed it is running sort of funny. It will run perfect Temps at times, then warmer, the cooler, and it just sort of is bouncing up and down when driving. Weirdly, it seems to being wanting to run warmer at night, go figure. My clutch fans works and my E-fan is hooked to a switch and will bring it back down if I flip it on.

But I need to change the radiator cap, because I don't even remember if I changed it 4 years ago with the other new radiator or not. I think so but not sure. I also forgot to flush or buy a new piece of overflow hose. So I'm going to do that too. I recently read a guy had a weird overheat issue and it turned out to be his overflow hose was clogged.

I have flushed this jeep so many times since me getting it in 2015 and yet the coolant always gets back dirty fast, so I always just flush the best I can. That's all I can do. Not sure what a shop would charge to do one of those pressurized block chemical flushes I've read about. But considering I was able to go 4 years this time with little to no issue I am hoping I can again.

Sorry for the long post but I haven't been on in a while. I normally come once or twice and year and hang around for a few weeks.

So what about the radiator cap. Any quality one I can grab or just get the Stant?

Just remember Stant is no more it's now owned by Motorad.

A Stant should be fine.

What brand thermostat are you using?

I use MOPAR only.

I know it's not a MOPAR but I remember wanting one. Once again, I was in a time constraint and could not find one locally and couldn't wait days on one. Also I just now was looking them up (if correct part) and they are $40 to $60. Wow. I think the one I have in now is a Duralast because I just grabbed what I could. Do you have the part number for the Mopar T-Stat in case I change it after the cap? Thank you

Oh. I thought the Stants seemed to be only listed a couple places. Do you happen to know the part number for Motorad and are they still made of the same quality? I searched motorad 10230 and it's pulling them up but they are cheaper than the Stants which probably makes sense but just want to double check before ordering.

Edit: Never mind I got one. Ordered a stant with the Stant box off ebay for $8.99 with free shipping. Hopefully it is fine. The cheapest Stant I could find on Amazon was 15.99 plus 6.99 shipping and tax for a $24 total.

Sometimes people forget about ebay but it is still (usually) a good place to find things. If it's not right I'll let y'all know.

Haha Look what I found in my tool bag. I must have grabbed it at a junk yard at some point off a Cherokee. It even has the Chrysler symbol on it. It looks pretty good. Must be why I grabbed it. Still have a Stant on the way too. [Click to enlarge to see part number]

@cruiser54

Hey, I'my pretty sure I have a semi-sticky T-stat. Sometimes it will run a bit above 210, even creeping to 220 when slowing or up hills. It never runs hot though. Of course the clutch fan cools it some when starting.

Then sometimes it runs perfectly at 195 or so, and only rises to 210. It has done this a few times now. Just a minute ago I drove it and it ran perfect temp. Stopped at Walmart. When I left it was running above 210 for a good while. Way long enough the T-stat should have already fully opened.

Then out of nowhere, going up hill, the temp dropped to 195 and it ran perfect Temps the rest of the way. So I know it's a matter of time before this thing sticks closed for good and I end up changing this on the side of the road, if that's what my issue is.

I said all that to ask if you have a link for the correct T-stat? When I put that number in it is bringing up many options. Crown Automotive, quadratec, etc. Just want to make sure I get the right T-stat. Thank you for any help, sir.

Thank you. It was the AD at the end that I needed. Looks like there is no way to get a Mopar one for under $40 anywhere. It's either ~$40 with free shipping or ~27 with $13 shipping haha. Oh well. Hopefully mine will hold up until I get a Mopar one in the mail. Thank you, again.
