Which axles are you considering?
Dana 44's would be good. Dana 60's if your doing some hardcore wheeling and Ford 8.8's out of Explorers are common rear upgrades for Cherokees.

Put in my vote for the 8.8.. they are cheap,easy to find, and have disc brakes. If you are c@oncerned about it being a c clip axle take all the money you saved and build a bulletproof axle truss.. just my 2 cents

Lift height has nothing to do with what kind of axles you use.
You could be running 31s or 37s with a 6.5 inch lift, that is what makes a difference on axle choice.
