help me

I just got my 93 xj running today. The problem I'm have is the header is getting cherry red. What would cause that?

could be a backed up cat .... or restriction in the exhaust.

It has no cat its been chopped off

And its still burning off some old gas

I can start it up and it will idle for a minute then cut off. Then I can start it back up and give it gas and it will start popping and spitting
