I was trieng to adjust the shifter because it wasn't starting so I took the center consol apart and popped the black thing up and then ran the shifter threw the gears up and down from park to 1-2.Now the key won't come out the ignition.What did I do wrong and how do I fix it?I kinda need to drive the Jeep too. my trucks in the shop

 

does the key work while being stuck in there?

 

try removing the bezel trim from just above the steering column, then just behind that ontop of the column, there is a black plastic piece with a metal rod attached to it. try pulling that towards you with your finger while you turn your ignition to off, then you should be able to pull your key out.

that rod is somehow attached to your shift lock. maybe when you had your console apart, you did something to that shift lock mechanism.

 

mine would'nt come out 2wks. ago and what i did is;

remove the black cover,and next to the shifter cable there is another..you can simply push it back w/ur fingers while at the same time turning the key back into the lock position, and then ur key should come out.

to be honest now i just either run it threw the gears,most of the time i just have to bump it up in park..
