Default Help..... Jeep runs but will not move!!!

Hi, could really do with some advice or ideas. Got a 2.5 sport 1996 running perfect untill a friend of mine got stuck in mud, went to tow them out, got them out no problems, got out of the field took it out of 4wd drove off started getting sluggish then would'nt change gear. Had the transfer box out all good still not going! Any ideas,

x2 on the automatic question?

if its an automatic - check the fluid, might have leaked out somehow, thus not having enough to move it.
If its a manual - try in 2H, if it wont move, try putting it into 4L or 4H, will it move then?

with the TC off, start it up and put it into 5th gear, get out and see if the rear output shaft on the tranny is spinning. This way you can at least ensure the tranny is good. After that it very well may have been the TC going out.

Did you hear anything snap or pop/blow up when you were pulling your buddy out?

tried all the transmission gears you mean? did you try putting it in 4hi and 4low? if it moved in 4wd, then you put it in 2wd and it stopped moving, i would think something busted at the rear driveshaft or further back.

have you looked to see if your rear driveshaft is even still there?

I used to have a 5spd 4cyl Wrangler and i went into some very taffy-like mud for several hours and it gummed up my clutch to where i couldn't use it until i washed it out....maybe that's what's going on?

what do you mean it got sluggish? the motor did? or was the motor trying really hard but something in the drive line was making it hard to move?

is it possible to get a quick picture of the undercarriage?

You sure you didn't burn your clutch up while yanking your buddy out of the mud?

If you have your T-case on the ground, spin the shafts and shift it. See that it works. And yea ^. If you smelled it burning up you may have, "finished" your clutch.!

How does the pedal feel?

yea that is what I am thinking

Im assuming you have the NP231.,.. Does the 231 have clutch packs in it?

I know on my brothers Chevy K10 it has a NP208 in it and some times (like its only happened 2 in the ~10 years hes had it) after he has really pushed it hard in 4WD (pulling people out) after a while it acts like its in Neutral even if the TC is in 4 or 2WD and the engine and trans spinning.
